Paediatric Hemostasis and Thrombosis (PHT)
Research Activity
The research activities of Prof. Paolo Simioni develop around the area of thrombophilias, hemophilias and hereditary coagulopathies, from both a diagnostic and therapeutic point of view and in both pediatric and adult patients. The projects involve in particular:
1) Thromboembolic disease in children and the Italian Registry of Infantile Thrombosis (RITI);
2) Observational epidemiological studies on the risk of venous thromboembolism in carriers of hereditary thrombophilia and on the hemorrhagic risk in patients with hereditary and acquired hemophilias;
3) Biochemical and molecular study of congenital coagulation defects in families with thrombotic and hemorrhagic diathesis (genotype-clinical and laboratory phenotype correlation);
4) Development of laboratory tests for screening subjects affected by thrombophilia and hemophilias: thrombin-generation tests, the study of microparticles and nucleosomes;
5) Genetic diagnosis of thrombotic and hemorrhagic coagulation alterations and identification of prophylaxis and therapy strategies, including gene therapy;
6) Management of severe perioperative and post-traumatic hemorrhages;
7) Coagulopathy in patients with cirrhosis.
