Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Rosella Tomanin is a Biologist and a Medical Geneticist, and she is presently Head of the Laboratory of Diagnosis and Therapy of Lysosomal Disorders of the Dept. of Women’s and Children’s Health of the University of Padova and of the “Istituto di Ricerca Pediatrica Città della Speranza”.

She graduated at the University of Padova in 1985, she has a PhD in Science of Development (Pediatrics) obtained at the University of Padova and a Specialization in Medical Genetics obtained at the University of Ferrara (School of Medical Genetics). In over 30 years laboratory experience, Dr. Tomanin has been involved in numerous projects in the fields of genetics, molecular and cellular biology and pediatric diseases.

She spent 4 years at McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada), as a post-doc (under the supervision of Prof. Silvia Bacchetti) and as a Visiting Scientist (under the supervision of Prof. Frank Graham), working on oncogenic adenoviruses and generation of recombinant adenoviral vectors for gene transfer and gene therapy applications.

Jan 1986-Dec 1989: Fellowships, Centro Regionale di Alta Specializzazione in Cancerogenesi Ambientale, Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, Venezia.

Jan 1990-Aug 1991: Postdoctoral Fellowship in Molecular Biology, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Jan 1994-June 1994: Fellowship of the Canadian Government – International Council for Canadian Studies

Mar 1998-Mar 1999: Senior Scientist Fellowship, Istituto per lo Studio e la Cura dei Tumori di Milano

Apr 1999-Mar 2001: Post-doctoral Fellowship, Facoltà di Medicina, Università degli Studi di Padova

In the last 25 years her research interests were focused on the evaluation of innovative therapeutic approaches, both viral and non-viral, for pediatric metabolic disorders and, in particular, Lysosomal Storage Disorders (LSDs). She has applied both in vitro and in vivo preclinical models of these diseases. She is also interested on the comprehension of their pathogenesis by applying NGS approaches, as genome, exome and transcriptome analyses. Moreover, she is very much interested in the molecular diagnosis of LSDs and on the possible genotype-phenotype correlation.

Dr. Tomanin is co-author of 53 publications on peer-reviewed International Journals and 5 book chapters, together with some publications in Italian Journals. She served as a reviewer for the following International Journals: PlosOne, Gene, The Journal of Rare Disorders, Cytotherapy, Expert Opinion on Orphan Drugs, Medicine, Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases.
